{"id":719,"date":"2013-06-10T17:50:50","date_gmt":"2013-06-10T17:50:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/melybarragan.com\/portfolio\/?p=719"},"modified":"2022-01-19T23:53:59","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T23:53:59","slug":"molaas-annual-gala-2013-cabaret-latino-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/melybarragan.com\/portfolio\/molaas-annual-gala-2013-cabaret-latino-auction\/","title":{"rendered":"MOLAA\u00b4S ANNUAL GALA 2013 \/ Cabaret Latino (auction)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 dir=\"ltr\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.molaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA)<\/a>\u00a0celebrates patronage, community, and a diversified roster of artists in their 10th Annual Gala.<\/h4>\n<p>The historical roots of Los Angeles are based in Latin American culture. \u00a0We are constantly reminded of the influence on our daily commute as street names throughout the Westside and Downtown identify Los Angeles\u2019 relationship with the past. \u00a0The names of familiar streets such as La Brea named for the nearby tar pits, or La Cienega, which translates as \u201cswamp\u201d- named for the swamp land that once occupied West Los Angeles- and La Tijera, named for the criss-crossing streets reminiscent of \u201cscissors.\u201d Even the name of our city originated in the 18th Century when the Spanish Governor of California established a settlement along the Los Angeles River named \u201cEl Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles,\u201d or the \u201cTown of the Queen of the Angels.\u201d Latin American culture remains a prominent fixture in the City of Angels, and the Museum of Latin American Art insures that the tradition continues.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1996, the Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA) is the only institution in the country committed to supporting Modern and Contemporary Latin American artists. \u00a0On Saturday, June 8, MoLAA celebrated its 10th annual Art Auction and Gala themed Cabaret Latino. \u00a0Artworks were donated by the artists and patrons to benefit the museum\u2019s curatorial programming for the year.<\/p>\n<p>Curator Iduree Alonso shares the works of 27 artists featured in this year\u2019s Auction- a combination of modern masters as well as established and emerging artists working in various mediums, including drawing, prints, sculpture, painting and photography. \u00a0While the aesthetic ranges from Traditional to Conceptual, the collection celebrates the achievement and vitality of the arts in the Latin American community.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/installationmag.com\/molaa-arte-latino\/\">http:\/\/installationmag.com\/molaa-arte-latino\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA)\u00a0celebrates patronage, community, and a diversified roster of artists in their 10th Annual Gala.
