Parece que la baja presencia en las exhibiciones individuales est\u00e9 relacionada a su manera de trabajar, que se caracteriza por grandes emociones personales por una parte y la superaci\u00f3n racional de un tema por la otra. Por eso su obra resulta como la s\u00edntesis de un proceso anal\u00edtico, que requiere mucho tiempo. Este hecho limita inevitablemente la cantidad de la producci\u00f3n. Solamente para esta exposici\u00f3n el tiempo de preparaci\u00f3n casi se ascendi\u00f3 un a\u00f1o entero.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Barrag\u00e1n trata dentro de este margen uno de sus temas centrales de manera muy consecuente: el aspecto g\u00e9nero de los roles sociales. Por ser una afectada pone el enfoque en la ambig\u00fcedad del rol de la mujer en la sociedad moderna: su cambio dr\u00e1stico en el \u00e1rea p\u00fablica por un lado y el casi inexplicable caer de muchas mujeres en la trampa de patrones tradicionales dentro de sus relaciones personales caus\u00e1ndoles malestar por el otro. Pero ninguna de estas pinturas de mujeres, en su mayor\u00eda muy llamativas, nos muestra el dedo \u00edndice dogm\u00e1tico feminista levantado y ni se entona ning\u00fan treno ni se echa la culpa a nadie. Haciendo uso del medio de distanciamiento, Mely Barrag\u00e1n toma sus figuras de mujeres de los cuentos de hadas, las telenovelas, los c\u00f3mics y los comerciales. Todav\u00eda da un paso m\u00e1s adelante y evoca en su universo de im\u00e1genes los a\u00f1os cuarenta y cincuenta del siglo pasado.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Un elemento muy alarmante para el espectador es la duplicaci\u00f3n de figuras o caras: \u00bfson im\u00e1genes reflejadas, es mi otro Yo o nuestro gemelo? Las &#8220;Casi Perfectas&#8221;, unidas por el codo como gemelos siameses, nos miran desde la tela de manera provocativa. Casi perfecta precisamente no es perfecta, como las chicas buenas a uno le gustar\u00edan siempre de ser. En todo caso las dos no son as\u00ed y pues como suele decirse: \u201cLas chicas buenas van al cielo, las malas a todas partes.\u201d &#8220;\u00bfUn Cuento de Hadas?&#8221; muestra en la parte derecha un \u00e1rbol delante de un fondo al rojo vivo, mientras en la izquierda de un color azul- verde radiante no est\u00e1 sentada Caperucita Roja, pero una Lolita, derramando unas l\u00e1grimas bien calculadas. En este caso seguramente el lobo no hubiera sido el seductor. Son precisamente esta chispa y la iron\u00eda en la obra de Mely Barrag\u00e1n que nos hacen pensar y algunas pinturas como &#8220;La Compa\u00f1era Ideal&#8221; incluso nos hacen sentirnos oprimidos.<br \/>\nLos materiales usados todav\u00eda subrayan el aspecto ir\u00f3nico. &#8220;El Pecado&#8221; por ejemplo, la ama de casa rechoncha tipo vampiresa en su ropa interior color azulado junto con sus dos clones de color violeto y verde, fue pintada, igual como &#8220;CareFree&#8221;, la soldada valiente y &#8220;Una de Dos&#8221; sobre una tela plastificada estampada que servir\u00eda normalmente para manteles decorativos en la cocina.<br \/>\nS\u00f3lo nos queda preguntar: \u201c\u00a1\u00bfHombres, si hay?!\u201d Como no, uno como consolador de &#8220;Cuatro Lloronas&#8221;. Tres &#8220;Hombres&#8221; m\u00e1s con caras masculinas marcadas fueron captados en formatos de im\u00e1genes ovales \u201cfemeninos\u201d. Para ellos el mundo parezca en orden todav\u00eda; pues al fin y al cabo \u00bfno son perfectos siempre?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Petra y Jens Herrmann<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 4\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\u00a0<em>Although only a few solo exhibitions were dedicated to Mely Barrag\u00e1n\u2019s work up to now, she is well known as an emerging artist in the Tijuana and San Diego region. The small number of solo shows may be related to her working method which is characterized by a personal concern on the one hand and a reflected coming to terms with a specific subject on the other hand. That\u2019s why her works are created as a synthesis of a time consuming analytical process which inevitably limits its numbers. For the present exhibition the preparation period alone was almost one year.<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 4\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><em>Within this context Barrag\u00e1n consistently works on one of her central issues: the gender aspect of social roles. Personally concerned the conflict of modern women\u2019s role is the center of her attention: its dramatic change in the public sector of society on the one hand and the almost unexplainable as well as uncomfortable tangle in aspects of traditional patterns of women in their personal sphere on the other hand. However nowhere on the predominantly poster-like depiction of women the dogmatic feminist forefinger is raised, nor does she start to moan and put the blame on someone else. Using the means of alienation, Barrag\u00e1n borrows her women figures from fairy tales, soap operas, comics and commercials. She even goes a step further and evokes in her universe of images the fortieth and fiftieths of the past century.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><em>For the observer the doubling of figures and faces that she uses in her paintings represent a disturbing element: are they mirror images, are they look-alikes, is it our twin? The &#8220;Casi Perfectas&#8221;, \u201cknit\u201d together at their elbows, look at us from the canvas in quite a provocative manner. Almost perfect is not exactly perfect, as one would like good girls to be. In any case those two are definitely not well-behaved, and how appropriate it says: \u201cGood girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere.\u201d &#8220;\u00bfUn Cuento de Hadas?&#8221; shows on the right side a tree in front of a red glowing background, while on the left side with bright bluish green colors not as possibly expected Little Red Ridinghood sits but rather a Lolita, who sheds some well calculated tears. For sure in this case not the wolf would have been the seducer. And exactly this wit and the irony in Mely Barrag\u00e1n\u2019s work make us think, some paintings like &#8220;La Compa\u00f1era Ideal&#8221;, even anxious.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><em>Beside that the ironic aspect in her work is emphasized by the materials she uses. &#8220;El Pecado&#8221;, the well-rounded housewife vamp in a bluish petticoat together with two clones in violet and green is exactly as &#8220;CareFree&#8221;, the brave woman soldier, or &#8220;Una de Dos&#8221;, painted on printed plastic fabrics which used to serve as decorative table cloth in the kitchen.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> There only remains one question: \u201cMen, do they exist!?\u201d Yes, certainly, one as comforter of four cry-babies in &#8220;Cuatro Lloronas&#8221;. Three other men &#8211; &#8220;Hombres&#8221; &#8211; with prominent masculine faces are painted on \u201cfeminine\u201d oval image formats.
