San Diego, CA— The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will host its seventh Benefit Art Auction at the La Jolla location (700 Prospect Street) on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 6:30 pm. The benefit auction, one of MCASD’s most popular and exciting events, features a live and silent auction of artworks by both internationally recognized artists and emerging contemporary artists. August O. Uribe, Senior Vice President of Sotheby’s New York, will preside as auctioneer. Funds raised will help support MCASD’s art acquisitions and future exhibitions.

Funds raised will help support MCASD’s art acquisitions, exhibitions, and education programs. Selected by MCASD Curators Robin Clark and Lucía Sanromán, the artworks will be available for advance viewing by Gold Circle Patrons with private tours by one of the curators.
The MCASD Benefit Art Auction begins at 6:30 pm on April 21, with a silent auction preview and cocktail reception. The live auction begins at 8 pm in Axline Court. Guests will enjoy dessert and coffee following the auction.
TICKETS
Gold Circle Tickets: $175 ($125 is tax-deductible), available exclusively for current MCASD Members
Gold Circle Patrons are offered the opportunity to have a private curatorial tour of the auction works and will be invited to a private VIP reception with a preview of the works led by MCASD’s curators. In addition, Gold Circle Patrons will have preferred seating at the live auction, complimentary valet parking the night of the auction, and a listing in the auction’s program.
General Tickets: MCASD Members $75 ($35 is tax-deductible), Non-Members $100 ($60 is tax-deductible)
MCASD Members and the public are invited to purchase regular tickets to the Art Auction, which include the cocktail reception, silent auction, standing tickets to the live auction, and dessert reception.

August O. Uribe
Mr. Uribe is currently the Senior Vice President of the Impressionist and Modern Paintings Department at Sotheby’s New York, where he has worked in a variety of roles since 1991. Utilizing his strong background in Latin American art, Mr. Uribe has lectured and participated in panel discussions at numerous institutions both nationally and internationally, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Caracas Museum of Contemporary Art, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey, Denver Art Museum, and the San Diego Museum of Art. Mr. Uribe also serves as a Trustee for the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
From 1998 to 2002, he served on the Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibition’s Board of Directors. Mr. Uribe was on the Mexican Cultural Institute Advisory Board to the Consul General of Mexico in New York from 1993 to 1998. Prior to that, he was curator of The Wray Collections in Scottsdale, where he oversaw a collection of more than 10,000 objects and paintings ranging from prehistoric Native American art to modern Latin American work. Uribe received his B.A. from Princeton University in 1985.
